Nope not that I've seen.
i use generic tape from eBay. I do get 50mm; nice and wide.
I bought a noname brand on ebay, 50mm... works fine.
I think it doesn't matter what brand of Kapton tape you should use. I use 50mm for me.
I bought the name brand tape for $45 a roll when I first bought my printer. In the time since then, I received another brand to test out (Sells for $30) and I can for sure see a difference in the tape. The name brand expensive one would hold corners of prints better for sure. Not that this is a guarantee, but just my observation.
Having said that, I recently switched from using tape all together, to a few glass beds and using hair spray. 100% better and easier to work with.
Hmmmmm.....noob question......
My printer bed is almost 6 inches wide.
That's about 150mm
So unless your platform is only 2 inches, why would you get Kapton tape that is only 50mm (about 2 inches) wide?
To save money? Or is your platform only about 2 inches wide?
Try it and see. :)
You cannot stick tape that wide down successfully. It will bubble and fold and make a right mess. Your blood pressure will increase, you life will be shorter. Hair will be removed in large handfuls, the wife will leave home and the printer will go out of the window removing the need for Kapton tape of any sort.
The other disadvantage is that if you tear a bit you have to replace all of it or get creative with a scalpel.
I used the 6'' wide tape also. Yeah it can be a pain, but you get better at it. I use a credit card to smooth it while I lay it down. Never tried the small sheets, probably easier I'm sure.
I also use the 50mm size. But only for sticking down the glass plate when I want to utilize the full surface area of the HBP.
My print platform is standard size for a FFCP printer. Approx 6 x 9. It came with the bed fully covered with K-Tape.
How do you remove the old tape? (And is there any special process for applying the new tape other than stick and go?)
peel off the old tape and use narrow tape to apply the new stuff :-)
I have a 150mm roll of kapton tape - the big issue is the stuff is incredibly thin. And applying it to the build plate within the machine is amazingly difficult. It would be easier to apply to a removeable plate.
But as has been mentioned it's easier to repair in thinner strips. I actually use 1inch pet tape.
And generally wait untill there's no printing space left on the bed before replacing. But often it'sa easier to just peel off a damaged strip and stick a new one on.
