Hi Ed,
I work for a 3D printing company, and we'd love to get feedback on our hardware and software. Having a separate section to solicit such feedback would be great if it's not appropriate for the main hardware or modeling/design/scanner threads.
Kevin
Interesting idea. What would you suggest a section like this be called?
A few options might be
- Product Feedback Requests
- Developer Feedback Requests
- Feedback Solicitations
- Requests for Feedback
- Demo and Technical Feedback Requests
Hmm OK. I'll talk this over with our partners and probably implement it next week sometime. Stay tuned :)
Ed
How about adding more folders for other printers like Makerbot, etc?
Really the idea is to use "http://3dprintboard.com/forumdisplay.php?4-3D-Printers-(Hardware)" as the folder for everything else. We will continue to add more printer folders, and also make a subfolder where we will list some of the smaller brands in the near future.
Ed
How about a chat system just at the side where people can just talk freely to one another? That makes for a nice bustling community.
Well you can't say this website isnt growing quiet quickly as it only started a few months ago ^^
I would suggest a chat at the top of the index of the forums,
So you have enough width and you can always see it,
So people can see it and very easily react on it,
The problem with a seperate website is that most of the time people wont goto it and it just doesnt run well.
Fair enough. I call your idea and raise you an addition.
Allow for the chat to pop out of the browser and become either full-screen or windowed, but not that crappy windowed that some people like to use where it's size is limited.
I originally suggested an IRC based chat because it would be easy to attach it to the site in almost any way, and you could use any separate client or browser you like to join.
I fixed the grammar mistakes in your post in my quote...
//EDIT: Oh, and under the 'community' tab you could have a page dedicated to the chat.
Also... That reminds me.
How come there are no categories for the groups? Everything is labeled as 'uncategorized'.
I am familiar with a chat box - see http://ouyaforum.com
I could implement something similar to that.
It's just that I feel adding a chat box now could perhaps give people less of an incentive to make new posts/threads. We need the forum to build up a bit, but I agree that a chatbox does help build community.
Eddie
Well imo a chatbox can be helpfull to help with small problems that don't realy need a topic.
Also just to chat a little ^^
Btw i don't see the chatbox you mean, They probably hide it for visitors.
OH yeah, It is hidden for guests. You would need to register to see it.
Eddie
Meh to lazy..
I am guessing you mean this? http://puu.sh/5464P.png
Or atleast thats what i meant :P
Chatbox is OK for you Americans, but I'm 15 to 18 hours ahead of you guys. I'm having going to bed at the end of my day when you are getting out to start yours. When I've got the time to sit at the computer and chat, you guys a snoring your heads off, and vice versa.

How about this:
Under each thread on the main page list the mods for it, and at the bottom of the page list the Super Moderators.
This way, if someone has a problem they know who to talk to about a specific issue.
This will also help later on when the community gets larger, as it will show possible trolls and whatnot that they have no place here, and they will be dealt with.
Well you can always report a message if its inappropriate/against the forum rules.
But i do agree that we need some Staff list so people know who is atm in the forums staff.
I originally thought a stickified topic would be enough.
All the moderators and admins.
With the site growing, anyone else have any suggestions?
Perhaps a Review forum for general products incl 3D printing?
So people can show off there printer and how well/bad it works, or hotends etc etc...
Interesting idea. I was hoping that the individual 3D Printer folders would open up opportunities for people to leave their reviews.
Ed
Yes, But just some things arent realy related at anything,
Example a hotend, Or simple a shop that sells 3D printed parts etc etc.
You could always make a Review forum, and make 2 sub forums one for 3D printed related stuff, and one for the rest.
For example PC stuff, or anything realy..
Would also be easyer to find Reviews, when you would else need to search through a dozen topics to find that certain review of a product you were looking for.
Anyone have any new, cool ideas for 3dprintboard? We'd love to hear them!
So, if you we're going to be holding contests and giveaways every so often, an idea to help make them better would be to have a way for people to contribute to it and in return they get a special badge or title on the site.
I don't know, it would be something to look into seeing if anyone would want to contribute.
How about having to be a member for a certain time? I think someone joining the forum specifically to enter the competition, and winning it 11 days later is pretty crap IMO, I'm sure I won't be the only one pissed at that. I mean, good on him, for 3 posts and a few days, he earned himself a $1200 3d printer.
Could we possibly get a Skype group or something for quick discussions over broad topics?
If anyone is up for entertaining this idea, I think it could eliminate the people who make an account to post one thing, then never come back.
If we had an IM group, people could join, ask their questions or start their discussion, then leave. It would need quite a few moderators though, to keep the discussions on topic.
We could do a chat board on the forum
Taptalk plugin?
Something that I would NOT like to see go away is the live updates on what people are posting, I really do enjoy seeing what people have to say about a variety of things. It really boils things down and allows me to see where the people are.
I know this isn't along the lines of things to add to the site, but I would be extremely disappointed if it went away.
