I would import() it into OpenScad and have a loop that goes 270 degrees adding rectangles ( actually cubes([-,-,-])'s at increasing angles and translations )
If you post the .STL file, I might just do it for you...
Or download Netfab Basic [free] and edit the stl file. Delete the sidewall triangles and use the hole repair tool to add triangles across the remaining gaps.

Here you go. Put this into OpenScad Version 2015.03-1. I left one line of the debug turned on so you can see how this is done. You can turn the debug off by removing the '#' sign. (however, that should not affect the final .STL file that you export.)
Do a Design/Render And then do a File/Export/.stl You will get this:

thanks so much. not sure how to do what you are saying "yet" do i need that exact version? i found past versions on the site and located that exact one or can i just use the latest version?
what do i do import the stil into the openscad program then input the code above somewhere? then export the file and print?

Probably any current version of OpenScad will work. But that version is what I used. Just put the input .STL file in the same directory as you create the do_fill.scad program. The .STL should be found by doing that. Then Render it and export it.
very confused. i downloaded the program. not sure what to do next? how do i import the stl and then what do i do past the code above into the editor?

The source code was given so you could learn. The very first line of the do_fill() module is:

To proceed, you would make a source file called do_fill.scad in some directory. Put that code into the file do_fill.scad. Put the original .STL file (with the correct name of fibofidget.stl) in the same directory. Double click on the do_fill.scad file from within Windows Explorer. That will bring up OpenScad. You should see an initial rendering of the output at that point.

finally did you recode the model or did you somewhow import the file i posted into openscad then fill it in? again sort of lost.

Complicated if you don't have any experience with OpenScad. Magics or the free version of Netfab makes this a much simpler job. Visual editing of the STL is a lot simpler for people not used to CAD.
In Netfab, highlight the inner sidewall triangles and delete them, then use the hole repair tool to cover the planar holes you have created. 2 minute job...

I'd just combined the original with a shape that filled the holes.
Same basic thing I guess, mine would just have been less elegant :-)

In Netfab, right click on the part name in the right hand editor tree and go through the menu to the repair section.
In your modeller window the repair options appear above the model on the toolbar, things like select triangle/face/shell. Manually delete/add to edit the geometry.
Don't forget to apply the repair when finished to return to the model window.

total newbie here to cad so bare with me. you did want to try to teach me something. i am open to that but when i cut and pasted the code it didnt come out like the pic you attached it wasnt the full file. if there is an easy way i am open to learning. how do i get the file to look like this

Yes... That .STL file I just posted is from the code posted earlier.
That picture you showed earlier had the code running and doing the correct thing. The problem was the .STL file was not being found and imported. You may not have noticed I changed the name of the .STL file. Take the .STL file you attached to this thread and put it into the same directory as where the source code for the .SCAD script is located.
Then either change the name of the .STL file to be fibofidget.stl or change the name given to the import() function. The two names need to be the same. And then you will get the correct image. If you just make the .SCAD program be this code initially, you will see if it is finding and loading the .STL file. If you can't get the .STL file to load, it doesn't make sense to make modifications to it.

I would recommend getting to know at least one good 3D cad package. Blender is good if your altering files in this way but its a bit complex so you might want to go with something easier. Tinkercad is really easy to use, you could probably just import the shape and then drop in a few cubes to fill the holes.

You have a gift for 'under statement'. I've use Blender for a few things that nothing else could handle. But Geeeeeze! That program is hard to wrap your mind around. I'm sure if I used it everyday it would get easier and easier. But right now... It is really hard to use. (But for sure... I've done things with it that no other tool could handle!!!!)
Well, what I meant is that if he intends to do a lot of this kind of work then learn Blender. If it's a one off then use Tinkercad which is really easy to understand. Another thing is that Youtube can guide you through most actions in Blender so you dont need to spend days learning it if you only have a specific task in mind.

yes i do use tinkercad exclusively its great for a newbie and i learned it easily and it offered me everything i needed till i wanted to fill this part [which is a one off type en devour] i looked at blender and some of the other suggestions trying them i just dont have so much time to learn the complexities. basically i have been using simplify3d and tinkercad and its been great but i do have the desire to learn cad so i need to look into a class. youtube is great but i want live instruction.

There is a really good Blender course on a website called Udemy. It was a kickstarter and I backed it and followed the course.
It's not a live course but then it's only 195 Euro for 276 lessons. A link to it is lower down this post.
I think you need to be realistic in what kind of instruction you are going to get, live instruction is going to be expensive if you can find it. I haven't seen this kind of instruction.
Most of the knowledge is out there on the internet for free for anyone who wants to learn it. You either want to learn so you put the effort in or you dont really want to learn. If thats the case then Tinkercad or something on that level will be as far as you can go.
Sorry to be harsh but it's the reality of it. Blender is one of the best packages available at the moment and it doesnt cost a penny. Put in a few evenings a week and after a month you will be able to use it on a basic level. The more you learn then the less you need to go back to youtube for help.
