Here is mine as it sits right now. I've done a lot of modifications since I built it. It's a little messy around it, aren't they always :)
Attachment 39
This is my main printer I designed myself using open beam I call the OB1 printer. I have since further developed it into the OB1.4 which is open faced and larger build area. Both printers are using the Azteeg X3 controllers and the OB1.4 also has the Viki LCD display. I have built eight printers now, five Mendel Prusa, one Mendel Max and these two I designed myself. I am moving house right now so my elves workshop is in storage along with my printers but I hope to have them all up and printing again in a couple of weeks time. After buying my first Prusa as a kit I have printed all the parts of subsequent printers using the previous ones.

Post a photo of your printer...
Attachment 43
My original (first!) printer. Modified from when I first got it, but remains 80% the same.
Attachment 44
^This is my current WIP printer. I expected it to work earlier, currently I am still building. Not working correctly still. But close. Hacked together a firmware and cobbled together a wiring loom... Everything moves, some not right. Soooooon it will be running.
Attachment 49
Just a Prusa i3 with some small mods ^^
Kinda thinking to replace the wooden LCD mount with a printed one wich i can get a few switches on ^^
(Orange stuff was just some ABS glue applied on the bed ^^)
Attachment 61Attachment 62Attachment 63
Here's my i3, made a new lcd faceplate to get some swiches on there, currently i have one switch to power on the printer, and one to switch on/off the hotend fan.
Ah your the one who made that LCD faceplate?! I seen it 3 days ago on Thingiverse,
Tbh before i bought this printer i was thinking to do the same, but never done it just due it works as it is atm :P Lazy i guess ^^
Btw you should get the Fillement spool holder, I've got it, and it works great for 1kg, wouldnt try it for 2kg tho without making more contact points
Yes, it was jast a quick'n dirty design to get rid of the loose hanging switches i got, i may do a prettier one sometime.
i have seen the spool holder you hang at the frame, i am however a bit skeptical at hanging an extra kilogram of weight off center so high on the frame. for now i just got a roller type holder standing beneath my table.
do you have the magma hot end?
Awesome Simon, that is one nice design, very neat clean lines. Have you increased the height from the Mendels and what is the print area?
Its a Makerfarm prusa, Build volume should be 20.2 x 20.2 x 18 (centimeters)
Btw how do you know my name ^^
Or was the question towards someone else, Unbelievable how many humans are called Simon :P
You should use the nickname instead haha :P
And Harball,
It shouldnt be such a problem, its only 1 kilo and its probably even better for the balance during printing, its probably not that Shackey anymore.
Btw it has 12 contact points with the wood, So it shouldnt be such a problem ^^
Attachment 70Attachment 71
Not clean at all but it gets the job done with speed and pretty good accuracy. Can't complain except for the small build area (6in cube)
@ Tom: Crazy design! Looks awesome!
Back OT
I plan on building a Rostock soon too - Started printing some parts already (3DR rostock)
Here are a couple of our Prusa's printing at this year's Maker Faire - New York

Here's my Printrbot Plus with dual extruders, upgraded aluminum couplers, GT2 aluminum pulleys, GT2 6mm belts, massive active cooling, X-axis bridge aluminum stabilizer, aluminum top joiner, Abec 5 Italian 608 bearings throughout, all motors have been upgraded to large Kysans with heat sinks, 350 watt power supply, 175 watt 2nd power supply, z-axis extension 17", Y-axis extension, custom printrstand with 200mm fan and much more.
If you haven't noticed, a lot of work has gone into this printer and it is a beast.

I figured it was only right to post the Simple XL. This is a build by RepRap Squad that over doubles the print space of the original Simple. You can see in the side by side picture of the original Simple next to the Simple XL.
I'm just finishing up the newest mods and getting it ready to fire up again. I'll update once I break the sound barrier. It should be all calibrated within the next week or so as dual extruders can be a pain but, I have faith that it should be ready for speed tests soon.
Wow, it's like a Dr Who episode where everyone is called Simon. My OB1.4 has a build area close to 200x200x200 depending on the extruder setup. Several other people have come up with better extruders and x-carriages now so I would probably use one of them if I were building another.
I have pretty much moved on from this printer now and am working on two other designs, one is a very simple printer made from 8-10mm acrylic sheet and will be a kit sold via a friend of mine in flat pack and the other is a one-off larger scale printer I am building with Misumi 2020 type extrusions and will have a build area of 300x300x300.
I am also associated with two different builders who are building very large scale 1mx1mx1m machines both running mach3 - it seems the way to go with bigger machines as there are a lot of CNC 4-axis boards out there that will run the larger stepper motors easily.
Seems like a very sturdy printer ^^
also as looks go you could make it pretty nice like black beams and orange plastic parts and a black or orange heated bed :P
Also i might be wrong but wouldnt it be possible to make a folding replicator from it with a few diffrent things? ^^
I just find those printers cute haha :P
But ye realy nice printer design you did there ^^
You should make a kickstarter haha :P
Edit: Just watched your video with the Red OB1 you made, Looked rly nice ^^
It's name is Jon because that's where you go to take a s***, not really, it does some interesting things.Attachment 238 Just almost finished with some upgrades, so I can measure and control temperature at more points. It is VERY old, like myself, has a lot of problems with the design, I change them once in a while, but for research purposes it works alright.
I'm not so much into the actual printing as know about the temperatures, and physics behind everything. I have a sales site, but it is only to support research, don't really try to sell.
Hi Printers out there.
My printer is RepRapPro Mendel with a Melzi board. It is still in the testing phase, but the only thing I need to do, is calibrathing the extruder. Then is it time for printing. :D Here is a picture of the animal: Attachment 240
Attachment 242
this is our printer with double extruder and increased printing surface using 2 heated plates.
We also got 3 prusa i3 printers and 1 prusai2, but they are standard.
thought this one would fit better here.
we're changing the extruder build because now it is not easy accesible.
Did you just run two build plates and lock them onto one belt, than cut the borosilicate glass double long? I imaging you have to run a second PS to heat up the second HBP? Looks good!
I've made my own design for the mechanical structure ... and um using the RepRap electronics .. here is my machine ... coming live very soon :)
Attachment 254
Heres my baby :) : (I extended all my wires and with a acrylic sheet, I mounted everything under the heated bed..One change I have made since this picture is switching out my RAMPS v1.4/Arduino Mega 2560 for a RAMBo v1.2 board from ultimachine.com....VERY happy with it.

A lot of great stuff here!
Thats mine: Prusa i3XL with some modifications, but still work in progress.

OMG!!! I am super jealous now, that is a very nice, clean Prusa i3!!! My next build is going to be a oversized mendel90, will keep ya posted here! :D Thanks for showing us your printer, really great work! :D
Ooooh very exciting, cant wait to see finished product and prints!!! Definitely keep us posted please! Kits? Are you planning on offering kits if and when the prototype is done? Just asking..
Thank you for the compliment!
The I3 was a kit I bought myself, but because of some improvements it looks a bit different now. As I mentioned before, I´m have by far not finished my work on the printer yet. Currently I´m working on stabilisation parts and a housing for the electronics - to make it look even more cleaner... It will take some more days until you will see this build in a new outfit.
I do not plan to make a kit out of that, but I´m happy to help others with all my knowledge and experience as long as I find the time to do so.
Helloo somewhere in the photo is mine

Am I the only one here using a RepRapPro Ormerod? ;)
Attachment 1282 Attachment 1283
It has some key bits replaced from stock:
- Different fan duct ("BigBlue360")
- Aluminium bed support
- dc42's improved IR sensor
- Better PSU (Corsair CX430M)
- Various printed upgrades
Also hooked up to a little wireless bridge thingy so I can put it out of the way when printing (currently sitting on the kitchen table).
Hello,
I'm using a K8200 from Velleman. Aka 3Drag:
Attachment 1346Attachment 1347Attachment 1348
I have modified it for better quality. Started with printing ABS last week with quite some satisfying results so far.
Btw the eifeltower is printer in 9 pieces ^^
Here is a picture of my son's printer bench. I know there is room there for at least one more printer? But I am sworn to secrecy for now.
Here's the little beauty I own, a sunhokey prusa i3 😄
Attachment 6183
Started printing with reasonable results within a few hours.
Attachment 6184
I think I have the PLA settings sorted, now on to the ABS which I expect to be a bit of a challenge.
Next I want to add another extruder, so I can use multiple colours 🌈 in one print job.
Cheers

I just purchased a used Prusa i3 which seems to be working for the most part. Previous owner was not the original, and doesn't know details about it. But I want to identify it. There is no maker information on the frame (I believe it is acrylic, not metal or wood). It uses a RAMPS 1.4 board. Can anyone identify it?
Here's why I'm asking: I want to update the firmware to support an LCD display, and also in case something goes up in smoke, I want to be able to get it going again. I have a new Arduino Mega and RAMPS board, and I want to load them with test firmware and use them as the testbed (so I don't screw up the working boards).
Is there a standard firmware download for these boards and this printer configuration, or do I need to start from scratch? Where can I find firmware to load for this printer, and if possible a configuration that might match? Thanks
