Filament welding

I have just seen this tool to weld filament.

The idea is nice but the cost seems steep for a quite simple function. Do any of you have your own trick to do that ?

That's hellishly expensive.

richrap experimented with welding filament quite a while back and built this. It requires a fair bit of manual dexterity but it's nowhere near 600 Euros.

I developed a heating plier to weld plastics filament like : PLA, ABS, PVA, HIPS, Ninjaflex and other.
I can make O-ring with ninjaflex

what do you think of my own: utility, design, price ...?

ludovic - can this join any two lengths of filament ?
I've never run out of filament while printing - I know what the model will weigh and how much filament is left on a roll :-)
But the ability to join up a bunch of shorter lengths would be really useful.
The price is good - if it'll definitely join shorter lengths of filament into longer ones - then yeah I'll definitely order one.
Haven't bought a gadget for a while now :-)

I tried this weekend to weld a compound of polyethylene strands of wire.
This also works very well.

Well, confirmed, this Pedro is a fraud. He has not delivered his campaign, has completely stopped answering mail, phone and website contact form since December 2014. Bizarrely he still has a sales website and is even advertizing a v1.2 ?
