Sounds like some sweet upgrades. I've been considering a fanless power supply.
Here's a new one for me I'm hoping someone can help with. The printer stopped responding in the x-axis mid-print, leaving a solid extruded line in the y-axis and no longer responding to machine jog controls. The stepper motor was cool and the belt/gears/connections looked fine.
I restarted the machine and the x-axis was again responsive. Restarted the print and after about an hour of normal operation the machine started making a clunking noise in response to x-axis commands. It was still trying to print, but was shaking violently. I stopped the print and tried machine jog controls, it responds erratically to x-axis input with a grinding jerky motion.
Any ideas what the problem could be? Maybe a stepper motor or driver? I'm wagering someone's seen this exact same thing :).
A few statistics on the all original parts: 1608 hours, 3284 meters of filament
Stepper cable is bad (most likely). If you don't have a spare then you can swap it with the y or one of the others to test.
That seems to have been the culprit, although it appeared fine upon inspection.
Thanks very much whirlybird! Any tips on avoiding re-replacement? Maybe it's time to breakdown and print the flexible cable tray and reroute?
I undid the cable from the last bolt on the top of the frame to let it hang a bit. Never got around to the cable chain.
3 years on original wiring like this. The wires are taped to the side panel.
Attachment 10377
Wires look familiar there JF!!
Owl in Hatchbox wood PLA on the Tech-1. I think I have the settings pretty good. A little stringing at the top so not sure what exactly to adjust but it is minor!

Looking good! Can you share your basic profile settings?
I've been itching to try printing some wood like stuff. Have you tried any others and does it require changing nozzles or anything?
S3d basic PLA for the Tech-1. Slower speed but still playing with that. Temp 195-205. .2 layer, 4mm and 1200mm/min retraction.
