3d printed model heart lets doctors do an impossible surgery on a little girl
Almost every day we have been reporting about 3d printed model of a body part being used as a medical simulation tool for doctors to perform surgeries that were previously either impossible or extremely difficult to perform. It gives me real pleasure being associated with a technology that saves lives of so many people. Todays news comes from Florida, where a 4 year old girl Adanelie Gonzalez was suffering from a rare congenital condition called anomalous pulmonary venous connection (TAPVC). This defect means that all the 4 pulmonary veins are malpositioned, causing them to pump blood in the wrong part of her heart. The Girl who had already gone trough 2 temporary life saving operations was in a critical condition and doctors at Miami Children’s Hospital had estimated that she might not live more than a few week.
