NEMO Created Via Additive Manufacturing to Explored Undersea Caves

Additive manufacturing is used for everything from creating aerospace parts which must withstand the rigors of the extraterrestrial environment to parts for the fastest F1 cars, and now a group of students, AM experts and National Geographic Fellows have used it to make the most dangerous sport in the world a bit safer. Called the NEMO (Nautical Exploratory Modular Observer), the device was designed to explore underwater caves so dangerous they kill up to 20 divers every year. Corey Jaskolski and the students from Colorado State University built the UROV with help from Solid Concepts, and they say it can easily operate at depths down to 60 meters - 20 meters below the depths which can safely be explored by master divers.
