Greetings to all. Noob with questions. Go figure.

I would like to purchase a 3D printer for some projects I have in mind. My budget is limited. I would like to set the limit at $500+/-. I have watched dozens of videos as well as reading through threads here looking for recommendations. The size of the items I would like to make is less than 12x12x12 inches. I have looked on Craigslist and the are many available for purchase. I know that there is much fine tuning with a brand new printer. Is buying a used one a foolish way to start? If this is a bad way to start, please suggest a print in my budget but please dont post that the printer that you sell is the best thing since sliced bread. This will be more for hobby than anything. I await your replies with anticipation.
