Improved 3D Printed Hip Replacements

There's good news for hip replacement patients in the form of a newly developed, 3D printed implant that could reduce current problems encountered post surgery. The implant, developed by researchers at McGill University, is designed so that it is composed of open tetrahedrons, allowing it share the weight bearing stress with the original bone. This means that the host bone gets the stimulation it needs in order to continue to produce cells, therefore holding the implant in place and reducing the need for a second replacement surgery.
