Finnish Researchers Work to Refine 3D Printed Healthy Foods

At the Technical Research Centre of Finland, scientists are getting closer and closer to the reality of true 3D printed foods—hoping to soon offer healthy snacks with enticing textures that could be customized and self-produced by customers, as well as seen in places like vending areas. While chocolate 3D printing is something most have heard about at this point, food 3D printing has not progressed to far beyond that, with the exception of confections, decoration, and related items like pancakes that are easily extruded. The scientists are working with starch and cellulose-based materials currently, but their goal is to extend that to vegetable and dairy bases as well.
