RMIT Researchers Find 3D Printing Filament Toxicity a Concern

It’s probably safe to say that the door’s being blown wide open currently when it comes to worrying about toxicity from 3D printing emissions. With materials like ABS, resin, and metals being put seriously on trial, more and more researchers are working to offer up studies on how dangerous fine particle emissions are, as well as exposure to skin from materials and resulting allergies, and far more. While we’ve looked at numerous reports now, a paper from researchers at RMIT University in Australia also states that toxicity is a big concern, and especially too when polymers are exposed to water. They believe that 3D printing is extremely helpful to medical research and in making medical devices and models but would like to see further studies and most likely regulations put in place to ensure safety for those operating 3D printing machines, as well as dealing with environmental concerns.
