3D Printable Biocompatible Electronics Medical Devices

Researchers from Deakin University and the Mayo Clinic presented a novel method for the creation of biocompatible enclosures for DBS (deep brain stimulation) devices. While it has been recognized that silicone would be the ideal material for the creation of such enclosures, the two primary methods available for its utilization each have flaws that have prevented it from being practical. With the introduction of 3D bioprinting, however, such enclosures can be created using medical grade silicone in such a way that addresses the flaws present in the alternative methods.
