Cinema 4D 'Atom Array' Equivalent?

Hi Guys!

I'm after your expert knowledge!
I'm looking for a program which will follow the edge of my polygon design, creating a solid 'wireframe' look. I've been using Cinema 4D's 'Atom Array' to achieve this in terms of visuals, but it produces some nasty results for 3D printing — all sorts of intersections.

So I was curious if there is another package, perhaps specifically designer for 3D printing which can craft this geometry without all the intersections.
