Why do videos have to have background "music" that sounds tinny and off key? I know that the background music smooths the viewing experience, but high pitched, scratchy noise is not the way to do it.

Can't argue with that. Horrible. I'd rather just silence with text at the bottom.
I very rarely have volume active on my phone or computer.
I agree. I don't want a fully immersive, multi-media experience. I want DATA.
I used to browse with NCSA Mosaic with images disabled, back when my teradactyl had to etch the info onto a tablet for me!
I think it's because they can and it will somehow make people like their particular music, because it sure is hard to hear the dialoge it's played over.
It's not background music at all.
