UK Researchers 3D Printing Phantom Inserts for Molecular Radiotherapy

Researchers at the School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Manchester have discovered a new way to help medical professionals establish more accurate dosage levels during molecular radiotherapy (MRT). Traditional processes typically rely on Single-Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) imaging which is known to be somewhat inaccurate, and especially without the help of camera-specific imaging. In making 3D printed inserts on a Stratasys Dimension Elite 3D printer and using them for calibration, the research team found calibration factors showing a 24%, 11% and 8% reduction in absorbed dose for the liver, spleen and kidneys.
