Windsufer Gets Second Chance Thanks to 3D Printing

Windsurfer Koen could no longer enjoy his favorite sport to the fullest because of debilitating and painful arthritis in his left knee. Surgeon Prof. Dr. Victor with the University Hospital in Ghent, Belgium teamed up with 3D technology giant Materialise to image and produce a surgical guide to assist in Koen’s osteotomy, a procedure that fully restored mobility in his knee and got him back on the waves. The surgical guide allowed Koen's team of doctors the ability to plan out the ultimately successful surgery to help the athlete get back on the waves.
