Researchers Using 3D Printed Stem Cells to Repair Joints

As advanced as surgical procedures can be, it seems that researchers are finding that 3D printing can help them refine their technique and help patients by easing their reaction to such intervention. Now a team of scientists at the University of Melbourne have used 3D printing to build small "scaffolds" which they use to cultivate surgically-friendly tissue. The method uses fatty stem cells implanted in a matrix, and the research teams says the technique will pave the way to what they call "true cartilage regeneration." What it ultimately means is a better outcome for patients who've suffered injury to their joints.
