Announcing Go Big 3D Printers Large Format 3D Printer


Go Big 3D Printers is excited to announce the launch of our affordable large 8 cubic feet 3D printer. There are other 3D printers of this size, but we offer superior components and printer design at half the price of our nearest competitor, Gigabot! This is truly the first affordable printer of this size, precision and reliability. The printer and over 90% of its components are proudly manufactured in the U.S.A.


What is different about this printer beyond the price breakthrough is the open, flexible and strong design. With the combination of these attributes, we feel very comfortable calling this an all-in-one printer. Let’s look at each of these attributes.


The printer uses open source Repetier firmware and we provide as a download from our website. This makes it easy for you to modify the configuration file to try a different type extruder or add a second one. We invite the user to experiment with the printer. If you mess up, you can always download the full firmware from our website and restore the printer back to its factory settings.


The printer comes with the firmware preconfigured with the laser and mill options enabled. These options are native to Repetier firmware 0.92.x. In our Kickstarter video we demonstrate these options using our printer. But since you have access to the configuration file, you can also add another tool like a paste extruder if you want. The printer is flexible and configurable to meet your needs. The printer can handle up to 8 stepper motors, of which it is only using 6. So you could configure it to use up to three extruders if you want.


The attribute that helps make the printer so flexible is the strength of its design. There are no belts used in this printer, like in our competitors’ printers. Ours is all direct drive leadscrew driven with dual Z and dual Y leadscrews, each one being driven with their own stepper motor and motor controller. The printer is designed more like a mill that requires much more force for cutting materials than a typical 3D printer.


We didn’t start out with milling in mind. We were just looking for the strongest, most accurate and robust design we could come up with. One day while leveling the printbed, a 2.5mm screwdriver was left in a screw and the X axis was accidentally moved through it. The X axis sheared the hardened steel of the screwdriver off with out misstepping like it wasn’t even there. The design proved to be so strong that we didn’t need to make any modifications when we started experiment with milling on the printer. It was a natural fit, making it a true and capable all-in-one printer.


For convenience, we added a 120V AC outlet on the side of the printer. The on/off power to this outlet is controlled by the printer via G-code commands. This allows you to include the mill power on/off commands in your G-code files.


The powerful 5.5 watt blue laser we offer uses the same mounting points as the hotend mount. Swapping in the laser just takes a few minutes. Both the hotend and laser use quick connectors and a couple of screws to connect them. There is an open source Inkscape Repetier plug-in for laser etching G-code generation. The printer comes pre-wired for the laser option or used to power any other 12V DC tool you wish to mount on the carriage.


We have a Kickstarter campaign currently underway. Production is now gearing up for higher volume manufacturing. Shipping is scheduled to begin in April 2017.
