Trinpy Royalty-based 3D Printable Model Repository Launches

3D designers often put a great deal of time and energy into their creations, and a new type of 3D printing design repository is looking to see that these designers are rewarded for their hard work--and potentially even able to live off revenues and royalties for their designs. Trinpy, founded by Andrew Karas, has just launched, offering unique, high-quality designs. Anyone can register for free at Trinpy and download up to 4 designs per month. Paid subscriptions (3-month and 1-year) are also available for individuals who would like to download more than this amount. Revenues will be paid out to designers in keeping with their designs' downloads as a percentage of total site activity. Hmm. not convinced. I'd rather get a small amount per download.

I don't see too many people paying for site membership when there are so many other sites available without membership fees.

I suppose the trick would be to have the same model on several different sites and see which one made the most money.

Thanks for your comments, that is essentially what happens but the amount you get per download varies by how popular your model is compared to other models on the site so you have the potential to make very little for your model or a lot for your model depending on the quality and how popular it is.

We think (but we don't know) that people will be willing to pay a membership fee if there are lots of great models to download vs the cost of paying for every model which could quickly add up (at the moment a yearly membership is less than a roll of filament at approx $30USD). Yeah that is a good idea, try it and let us know how you go (at the moment there is over $2,000 up for grabs in royalties so it is highly likely that you could get a good chunk of this with a popular model).
