Robots for Good is a project that is bringing a 3D printed robot riding a Segway-like device to the aid of hospitalized children. The InMoov Explorer, based on the open source InMoov robot and Open Wheels designs, puts a humanoid robot under the control of children in hospital beds who are geared up with Oculus Rift virtual reality headsets and video game-like remote controllers, so the robots can go do all the sightseeing the kids cannot. The first robots are intended for donation to patients at Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital so they can virtually visit the London Zoo. The open source project allows for users to collaborate and improve design elements. Robots for Good hopes to get the project up and running in the next 12 months with the first robot deployed to show bed-bound children the world outside.
