    CobbleBot Little Monster 3D Printer

Last year, Jeremiah Clifft and his company, Cobblebot Inc., successfully funded the Cobblebot 3D printer via Kickstarter, raising over $370,000 in backing, well over the $100,000 goal. Cobblebot is back at it with a recently launched campaign to fund the new Cobblebot Little Monster 3D printer. The new, simplistic machine has a price tag of just $199 and can be upgraded to a larger build area and to use more types of filaments. The standard Little Monster has a 6" x 6" x 6" build area and can use ABS or PLA; with upgrades, the build envelope has a max of 10" x 10" x 10" and can support nylon, polycarbonate, flexible filament, LayWood, PVA, and HDPE materials. Cobblebot also intends to introduce as many as six more machines this year, including a laser cutter, engraving machine, CNC mill, and 3D scanner. Here are some general specs for the Little Monster:

    • Build Envelope: 6" x 6" x 6" (152 x 152 x 152 mm); Upgradeable to a max of 10" x 10" x 10" (254 x 254 x 254 mm) in 1" increments.
    • Layer Height: 100-300 micron
    • Printer Speed: 30-60mm/sec
    • Compatibility: Windows, Mac, or Linux

"The fact that he has launched a printer on Kickstarter in the past bodes well for those interested in this machine"

That's rather misleading. Cobblebot has launched a previous printer on Kickstarter, but to extend the analogy they've yet to show it floats.

If there are problems with the previous printer then no backer will know yet, as no backer yet has all the bits to build it. There aren't even, as yet, any pictures of the production Cobblebot -- not one, just images of prototypes. It is too early to imply they have a proven track record. If the previous Cobblebot turns into a train wreck it will do so _after_ this Kickstarter campaign has achieved funding -- when it's too late to back out.

Can you explain how in your mind the fact that Clifft and Cobblebot have proven anything other than the fact that they can raise money for oddly designed printers? You do of course realize that not a single one of the first KS backers has seen the printer they ordered, much less actually used one to print anything at all?
