Dr. Priscilla Lumano-Mulenga and Dr. Joseph Conrad of Vanderbilt University are working together to combat malaria in Zambia through the creation and use of a 3D printed device which can be used in isolated areas to enhance testing of the disease. With early detection and prescription drugs, malaria is usually easily treated and does not cause death. The team has a 3D printer in the field currently in Zambia after Dr. Conrad traveled there to set it up. Dr. Lumano-Mulenga, a research scientist in Zambia, as well as a research fellow for Vanderbilt, will be traveling into the communities of Zambia to help integrate the process and the new 3D printed device.
