ATLAS 3D Printable Laser 3D Scanner on Kickstarter

Uriah Liggett is an experienced software developer and inventor who was motivated to create a 3D scanner out of his own frustration and disappointment with the products on the market currently. While planning to use his 3D printer to start producing his own household items, he found that it was impossible to find a good 3D scanner that was affordable. Using the Raspberry Pi to run his new invention, the ATLAS 3D, he developed the software and tools to put together kits for those who own Raspberry Pis or are interested in getting one. He does also provide a complete kit that includes the Raspberry Pi B+. Otherwise, each kit comes with electrical components and variations on supplies. The users are expected to 3D print their own parts for the 3D scanner. The ATLAS 3D has already exceeded its Kickstarter goal by more than $20,000. Check out more details on Liggett and the ATLAS 3D in the full article: http://3dprint.com/36301/atlas-3d-scanner-kickstarter/

First Kickstarter project I've put funds into. I'm really liking what he's doing.

The FreeLSS open source 3D printable 3D scanner system -- as seen in the ATLAS 3D scanner -- is now available to 3D printing enthusiasts, free, with files on github. With a minimal amount of electronics and 3D printing experience, users can download the files and assemble this 3D scanning laser system which operates with the Raspberry Pi, centered around its 5 MP Raspberry Pi camera for laser sensing. With a flexible, open architecture, the FreeLSS offers a host of attractive features for those looking to perform 3D scanning and 3D printing affordably, with quality.
