Interstellar Film Relied on 3D Printing For Ranger Spacecraft and More

For those of you who have not yet seen the movie Interstellar, I can tell you first hand that it's worth the money. Something which I had not realized while watching the film last night was the fact that all the Spacecraft within the film were at least partially 3D printed in some way or another. The Ranger craft relied heavily on 3D printing as models were used, some as large as 46 feet in length, meaning they all needed to match up almost perfectly with one another. A 12 foot model used within the film, which was created thanks in major part to 3D printing will be on display at London's BFI IMAX cinema until November 17. More details on this model can be found here: http://3dprint.com/23759/interstellar-3d-print

Below is a picture of the partially 3D printed, 1:15 scale, 12 foot long model of the Ranger from Interstellar. Have any of you seen this in person?

Wow 40 feet... thats insane. I just wish they would have gone to more trouble on the design, that has to be one of the worst designed shuttles for a sci fi movie i've seen.
