3D printing is making its way gradually into the medical setting. It is being used extensively by some surgeons in the creation of tangible medical models. Usually a CT scan, MRI, or ultrasound is required in order to generate these 3D printed models. However, these machines are very expensive to use, and only accessible to some. One company, however, is working on creating a sub-$1,000 ultrasound device which can connect to a smartphone and display in real time.
