Smartphone App which Turns Any Phone into a 3D Scanner

Wow, things are certainly progressing fast in the 3D scanning world. First we had the Structure Sensor rake in dough on Kickstarter a few months back, and now that too has been 1-upped. Researchers at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, have created a smartphone application which turns any phone with a decent GPU into an all out 3D Scanner. Check out this video, and let me know what you think. Seems pretty awesome, and something that will likely get much better as smartphone power progresses:



Here is a look at a model which was scanned with the app, which was than printed out. Not perfect, but pretty cool none-the-less:

The detail on these prints look pretty good, but not spectactular. Any idea the size of those models in the picture? Kinda hard to tell how good it is without knowing that.

Ehh, not enough detail to be worth using. The model in the picture looks terrible IMO.
