Combining 3D printing and scanning can make for one heck of a powerful tool... a 3D copy machine. One California woman got a first hand look at what 3D technology is capable of when her parents dropped by in her dads 1934 Dodge Brothers pickup truck. The vehicle which was manufactured like most vehicles which are 80 years old, with only 1 side view mirror, needed such a mirror on the passenger side. Or at least her father wanted one. What he did was scan the driver's side mirror, turn that scan into a CAD model, mirror the model, and print it out. After some sand blasting with aluminum and black paint the mirror looked identical to the left side. More details on this story may be found here: http://3dprint.com/16944/3d-print-vintage-car/

Below is a picture of the manufacturer's driver's side mirror and the identical 3D printed one on the passenger side of the '34 Dodge.
