Australian Senate Meets to Discuss 3D Printed Guns

Both the Labor and Green Parties in Australia have come together to establish a Senate inquiry into the technology around the latest produced firearms, particularly 3D printed guns. Further details can be found here: http://3dprint.com/6419/3d-printed-gun-australia

Clearly Australia is taking the whole issue of 3D printed guns seriously, ever since Cody Wilson released the blueprints for his Liberator 3D printed gun. It will be interesting to see what comes out of this inquiry, and what, if anything, Australia will do to regulate this space. Any Australian members of this forum? What is your opinion on all this?

    All I can say is:

    Ah Jeez.jpg

The Law in Australia already says that any part of a firearm (including ammunition) is a firearm and the possessor of the firearm must be licensed to possess it. Also every firearm must be registered. Our criminals would not not risk the embarrassment if their associates caught them with a 3D printed gun.

If this matter is raised in a Senate Committee enquiry, then one hopes that the good Senators have the sense to realise that the question is dead in the water and move on to dealing with the criminally financed import and manufacture of functional firearms.
