    Software used for 3d

I have to ask - because I have a different approach and skillset then some - what do people use for making 3d models?

I use Autodesk Softimage (now no longer being developed for) and have been using it for 11 years now. Autodesk Maya I use heavily at work, not pleased with the modeling toolset, speed and OpenGL. Those are my own issues.

I'm migrating to Blender for my freelance work and personal work. But that's enough history from me.

I'm curious what people use and for what purpose? Not as a suggestion for myself. I just want others to possibly be informed of what is out there.

    Do people have favourites? why?

I've been using OpenSCAD. It's free, easy and as powerful as you need it to be. The programming style appeals to me for some reason.

hey Larsen. good to see other soft artists still alive :OP

i use maya, soft and Zbrush. alough to be fair i have only just gotten my printer so i cant really comment..
the only software i have at home is ZBrush though, its apparently got pretty good 3D printing tools, although i've not really tested it yet.

i know what you mean about maya, I'm a modeller and im mainly a maya guy so using soft can be a huge relif lol i really love those curve tools and the fact that duplicating things alows you to extrude them... seems like a small thing but its really really not lol.

What I get frustrated with in Maya is the lack of selection memory. You know how in Soft you can select an object and select either the points, lines or poly's. It remembers your selection throughout each, and even when you switch objects, that selection history is sooooo very important and handy.

    Okay, my rant.... is done.

I used SolidWorks if it has to be very precise and SketchUp for all quickshots
