Printer LCD Glitches After Starting Preheat

Hi there,

I bought a RepRap printer Prusa i3 clone from Amazon.

I got it and when I assembled it.

It turns on perfectly and I can use the LCD Menus.

But as soon as I start a print or preheat the Hot End and Bet. The screen and LED on the MKS MakerBase board goes crazy. Black-On-Black-On until I unplug it.

The PSU is working. I also tested the PSU under load and it works.

I contacted the seller and they said that they will send a new MakerBase board. I bought the Printer with Amazon Prime so it came to my house the same day I ordered it.

But the customer service rep says it will take 15 days for the part to arrive from China.

I want to think that it is an issue I can fix on my own while I wait for the new part.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Hello;


I would first disconnect the hot-end and the Hotbed and measure them to see what the resistance is.

As any more testing could cause damage to the power supply. I would then get a meter and ohm out both the hotbed and the hot-end.

You should see a low resistance on the hotbed should be between 2.5 and 5 ohms if it is 12V, and between 10 and 20 ohms if it is 24V.
The hotbed should be around 1.4 ohms if it is 12v and 3.6 ohms if it is 24V

The resistance of the hot end is 3.6 ohms

The resistance of the hot bed is 0.7 Ohms

When I measure the voltage coming from the ports on the MakerBase Board. I get 0.8 DC and 1.2 AC.

So is the problem with the Makerbase board or the hot end/bed?

Calculating your hotbed current at 12v divided by .7 ohms equals 17.14 amps
What type of your power supply are you using. Voltage, Current and watts.

Can you try a print without using the hotbed heated.

Yeah. I printed with the hotbed off and it worked!!!

But.... the material didn't stick.

Now I know I just have to buy a new heated bed. The PSU can do 12V 20A.

I did not really expect it to stick. Wanted you to test to see if that what causing the problems.

I use a vinyl transfer paper and can print without a heated hotbed.
