Denver-based Boom Supersonic is turning to 3D printing solutions to speed development of the XB-1, a supersonic demonstrator set for its first test flight in 2018. A new technical partnership with Stratasys will lead to increased use of additive manufacturing technologies in the development of commercial supersonic air travel. According to Boom, their aircraft will reduce flight time from New York City to London from seven hours to just over three hours, driven by mach 2.2 speeds (1,451 mph) that are 2.6x faster than current planes. Stratasys shared insights into the partnership and technologies Boom will be leveraging, telling 3DPrint.com what to expect from the partnership and use of 3D printing.
