Snapmaker Raises More than $1 Million on Kickstarter

For as many people who may have backed away from instead of backing new crowdfunding campaigns, there are still plenty of 3D printing enthusiasts willing to put their trust in a promising product. That's rarely been more evident than in the soon-to-conclude Kickstarter campaign for the Snapmaker 3D printer, a simple but sturdy machine that also functions as a CNC machine and a laser engraver. The campaign was launched by Snapmaker, a startup founded by mechanical engineer David Chen, and has raised nearly $1.5 million with less than two weeks left (its initial goal was to raise $50,000). What makes a campaign like this so successful, especially these days when would-be backers might be a little extra wary of pledging their money to a 3D printer crowdfunding effort? We spoke to the company briefly to find out. Read more at 3DPrint.com: http://3dprint.com/171541/snapmaker-3d-printer-kickstarter/

This is very promising. I hope they can manage the manufacturing planning well. 42 hours to go on the Kickstarter!

This must have been the most successful 3D printing Kickstarter project to date!
I am wondering if anyone else on this board has backed so we can start a thread and discuss experiences.

look almost like a copy of the Trinus. Which is currently still trading - wahey !
They've definitely 'borrowed' the modular build technology.
Both use exactly the same modular rails, both have laser and cnc heads. The trinus has 4 rails versus the 3 of the snapmaker.
But apart from that, very very similiar lol

But why do these companies keep producing great bits of engineering and then give them a really small build volume ?
    It's a 125 mm cube.
Given the design, all they need to do is make the build plate bigger and the rail modules longer.

The cnc module - essentially a printer mounted rotary tool - is pretty cool.

I believe the tiko still has the most and fastest money record for crowdfunded 3d printers.
And they just went under. Never let an engineer run a company :-(
Put an accountant in charge :-)

Clare - How about an article on crowdfunded printer companies that have made it, versus the number that went under, taking the money.

You pretty much just hear about the failures, It would be interesting to find out the actual proportion of success versus failure of crowdfunded machines in the 3d printing industry.

Oh and the link to the article doesn't work.

So you've backed this one have you ralph ?
