Researchers at the University of Pittsburgh have received a significant grant from the National Science Foundation Division of Materials Research. With funds totaling $503,435, the team will be able to forge ahead with their study regarding how microstructures are created in metal and alloys upon solidification after laser beam melting. With this grant, they will be able to use the specialized dynamic transmission electron microscope (DTEM) created by LLNL. They are studying these processes in relation to 3D printing, welding, and joining. Read more at 3DPrint.com: https://3dprint.com/143495/university-pittsburgh-grant/
