When a team of students from the University of Connecticut's Engineering Department began planning their design for this year's Formula SAE, an international competition in which university students design and race Formula-style cars, they decided that they could design their vehicle more effectively and efficiently if they had a 3D CAD model of their engine. They reached out to local company Bolton Works, who scanned the engine and used 3D Systems' Geomagics software to create a perfect, detailed 3D model, enabling the students' design to be more accurate and effective than they'd ever been able to achieve before.
