Some people find eating turtle eggs to be a delicacy. Unfortunately, unlike chicken eggs, turtle eggs are only laid once a year and the destruction of clutches of these eggs to satisfy unnecessary desires can have a lasting impact on the recovery of already threatened turtle populations. As a result, the California conservation group Paso Pacifico has worked to develop a 3D printed turtle egg which contains a GPS tracking device in an effort to discover the identities of the big buyers of these smuggled eggs and cut off demand right at the source.
