3D technology has come into play in a rather unlikely area as a tunnel that archaeologists have been seeking for many years now has been found in Ponary, just outside what is now the capital of Lithuania. When a crew of Jewish prisoners were taken to burn masses of dead that had been buried during the war but needed to be disposed of as Russians advanced, they knew the end was near for them too. As they performed their duties, they also began secretly digging a tunnel. Finally, with the use of 3D technology and imaging, scientists have found the tunnel and hope to excavate it, integrating it into the memorial at Ponary.
