In a project that brought together art historians, software developers, and 3D print experts, the Dutch financial institution ING worked with advertising agency J Walter Thompson to create a work of art that could be called the next Rembrandt. In depth study of the master's works led to the development of algorithms capable of dictating facial features, lighting, and painterly style to a 3D printer working in paint-based UV inks. The final piece produced was built up with 13 layers of paint and provides a fascinating exercise both in the potential for 3D printing to participate in art and in the study of Rembrandt himself.
