Post processing : highlighting reliefs with Pebeo pens

I usually add a lot of reliefs on my prints. But as you may have noticed, it's hard to spray paint reliefs : painter's tape is a pain to apply in that instance.

I found a really great brand of oil-based pens that do the trick really well as you can see below (before/ after). Took me 2 minutes to apply. Then wait a few hours for it to dry completely.

I really like these new products from Pebeo.

    A few remarks :
    - the oil naturally seems to want to follow the layer lines and slightly seeps if your paint application is a bit too generous. So when your relief is on the side when printing, you need to be careful.
    - I have found that applying a spray paint coat before completely avoids this seepage.

    More of the same.
Here I applied some spray primer before to attenuate the surface defects, then used the silver pen to colour selectively.

    that looks really good :-)
although you did start with saying spray painting was a pain and then used spray painting on both models.
    I'm slightly confused :-)

I meant that selective spray painting is not possible and using painter's tape is not always practical.
I recommend the spray primer if the relief to highlight is on the side to avoid seepage long the layer lines. If it's not on the side (as taken on the print bed : bottom on the print bed) of the print, then no problem.
I used the spray primer all over as a preparation, not selectively.

    Hope this makes it clearer.
