Is there software that shows how much plastic will be used?

Hi all,

I'm considering purchasing a 3d printer, have a budget of £1000 and also looking 2nd hand too so I get more for my money. One thing I wanted to know, is there software that once you have uploaded a .stl file will tell you how much plastic will be used?
I would want to be able to give accurate quotes if I were to print files for people.

Yes, Jim-Jam.
1. Generate the Gcode from your stl file using a program like slic3r.
2. Upload the Gcode file into pronterface.

Pronterface will tell you how many millimetres of filament will be used for the print (which includes the amount of filament used to do the printing base which you will discard)

A bit of arithmetic will let you calculate how much the filament will cost you.

I would buy a Ultimaker 1 if i was you with that money,

Also with cura it will automaticly tell you how much fillament and how much it will cost for that print you uploaded into the program.
