At this year's 88th Academy Awards ceremony, the Oscar statuette will be just a little bit different that those in the past years, harking back to its roots with a design brought straight forward from its predecessor in 1929. The sculpture was created by making a digital scan of a 1929 original and then using that virtual model in the process of creating the mold used to cast the little man. In the heat of the moment, those winning may not appreciate the subtle changes, but the rest of us watching will have to keep our eagle eyes out to see 3D printing take its moment in the limelight.
