While children are being prompted to excel in school and go to pricey four-year colleges, that may not be the best route for everyone—and the economy is paying the price as not enough skilled workers in areas like additive manufacturing, traditional machining, HVAC, welding and more are being churned out. States like Colorado are having to outsource to other states for highly skilled workers who probably have a bit more than a high-school education and less than a four-year degree. As the concern is becoming more urgent, it’s hoped that more adults can be retrained, or ‘upskilled’ to help save economies.
