Researchers at MIT have been working to harness light polarization for some new uses--and a new dimension at that. Studying polarization filters used for traditional photography, as well as previous studies, they have created something new called the Polarized 3D system. With this process, the scientists discovered they could enhance coarse depth maps though polarization. They created a new framework of algorithms which may allow for use in a range of technologies, but most specifically in that of smartphone cameras. That particular application may even allow for a user to take a picture of an object and then directly after, 3D print it. Read more at 3DPrint.com: http://3dprint.com/112057/mit-media-lab-algorithms/
