A young Canadian man who experienced a serious trauma to one side of his face four or five years ago persisted in trying to find a solution to end the pain he was in as well as repairing the disfigurement caused after his cheekbone and eye floor were crushed. In discussing his case with skilled and experienced surgeon, Dr. Daniel Borsuk, Alex pleaded for help. Borsuk used virtual surgery, 3D printing, and ‘novel surgical techniques’ to repair the side of his face that was seriously injured years ago. With a 3D model that helped identify the missing bone and pave a path for the procedure, surgeons were able to use Alex’ pelvic bone and arteries to complete their mission successfully.
