You Can Now 3D Print Craters From the Moon and Mars

Recently a pair of scientists spoke at the Geological Society of America conference in Baltimore about the benefits of converting 3D topographical data from the surface of the Moon and Mars into 3D printable models. It can help researchers understand lunar and martian geologic history, determining the sequences of their geologic events and understand the structure of impact craters. It is also a useful tool for learning about the geophysics involved with planets and asteroids. You can earn more about the educational benefits of 3D printed impact craters over on 3DPrint.com: http://3dprint.com/105677/3d-printed-craters-moon-mars/

I have a collection of Lunar surface models available at lunarsurfacemodels.com. I have used a 3D printer, but now use a CNC router to make the models, which are used as molds for a thermoforming machine. The models are made of polystyrene and painted to bring out the relief.
