Australian researchers are hoping to transform the area of cranial reconstruction over the next year as they work toward using 3D printed implants in patients who have suffered trauma or had parts of the cranium removed during surgeries for one medical reason or another. A Vienna-based 3D printing company will help to make the implants which will serve as scaffolds injected with millions of stem cells to help regrow the bone--after which the 3D printed material degrades safely.
