The poaching of rhino in order to remove the horn for sale is a difficult activity to stop. A lot of factors come together to contribute to its continuation and the very real consequences are irreversible. Recently, the head of the Inverdoon Game Reserve in South Africa suggested a way in which 3D printing could be part of the solution. The idea behind his plan is to create 3D printed molds of the remaining rhinos' horns and use those to create plastic replacement horns. The actual horn would be removed and poachers would soon discover that they were taking an enormous risk only to come away with a bit of plastic that would net them nothing.
