    3D Printers and Pets ?

So I just got a dog at the animal shelter. I never thought about it before but the dog sleeps in the same room as my printer. Has anyone had any issues with similar situations?

#1 will the dog hair bother the 3D printer in any way?
#2 Are the PLA fumes ok for my dog?
#3 Do Dogs typically disturb moving printers? I haven't tried yet.

    Its an older Golden Retriever.

What type of printer do you have?

    As for #1) Probably not.
#2) Shouldn't you be concerned about how the fumes will bother yourself?
#3) Depends how well the dog is trained. You may not want him in there when you are printing something.

If its an older Golden Retriver I guess it's:
#4) Your dog will be scared to death from the printers sounds.

#1) no problem just frequently clean the axles if accessible and cover up the printer with a plastic bag when not in use
#2) depends on room size ventilation and frequency of printing action.
#3) young cats are prone to do this.

Usually FDM printers don't have issues with ventilation. If you are running an SLA or SLS printer, be careful about inhaling the fumes/residues.

There has been some concern raised about hot extruded ABS printing being toxic. Apparently nanoparticles are released that are at least potentially harmful. Here's some info about that: http://www.sciencedirect.com/science...52231013005086

If you're concerned about your pet's (and your own) health, you might at least ventilate the area when you're running the printer.

I have a dog, and he wants nothing to do with my Replicator 2. When it is printing he seems afraid LOL.

I would probably suggest not keeping the printer in your bedroom where you sleep, but elsewhere in your home should be fine.

My son's cat is not bothered by the printers. Sometimes he will sit and watch when we are sitting by the printer, when it is printing alone, he never goes close or bothers it. He would much rather look out the window at the birds or squirrels.
