England's Birminghan University is home to the Jewellery Industry Innovation Center (JIIC), which uses the latest technology of "highly complex CAD/CAM and laser technologies" and uses them for companies' product development. But the JIIC was also a natural fit for a museum project too. This project was to recreate some pieces from The Staffordshire Hoard, which is over 3,5000 gold and silver metalwork artifacts found in 2009 in an English field. These artifacts are now housed at the Potteries Museum and Art Gallery, but the collection's caretakers wanted the public to have more access to them through personal handling. JIIC settled on a Solidscape 3D printer for the project and you can see the impressive results for yourself! Check out more details here: http://3dprint.com/100982/english-staffordshire-hoard/
