3D Printed Kinematoscope
With just four 3D printed parts, a small wooden rod, and 24 printed images, you can delve back into the 19th century by creating your very own kinematoscope. The device, a predecessor to modern movie making, flips through images to show a story--and Markus Fischer has turned to 3D printing to make a clever version powered by a hand crank. He's made available step-by-step directions on his site, as well as released the files on Thingiverse. Check out more details behind the kinematoscope's creation over at 3DPrint.com: http://3dprint.com/94842/3d-printed-kinematoscope/

I like it - portable animated gifs !
But why not just print the central rod as well ?
It's a pretty small model, most printers ought to be able to handle it.
Seems daft leaving out a simple printed cylinder that would make the whole thing 100% 3d printed.
Print not sticking to base plate?
